In Memoriam

The worst fears have come true.

An exceptional racer—kind, humble, and widely respected—Kamil Holán has completed his final ride.

He passed away during the prestigious North West 200 races on May 7, 2026, at the age of 48.

Synopsis

What are people willing to sacrifice for their passion? Most of us give our hobbies time, money, or energy. But who are those who are willing to risk their lives?

I followed the story of an adventurer—one of the finest motorcycle road racers, Kamil Holán. Competing among the very best, he consistently placed at the top of the most demanding races, reaching speeds of over 300 km/h on the notoriously dangerous Isle of Man TT course. What drives a person to embrace such risk?

Kamil described a euphoric state in which mind and body operate at absolute peak under extreme conditions. Reaction time is reduced to a minimum—any single mistake by the rider, or even a minor mechanical failure, can have fatal consequences. In biker slang, the moment when a rider reaches both their own limits and the limits of their machine—balancing on the razor’s edge between life and death—is known as “flat six.”

Despite the ever-present danger, there is a powerful inner force that compels riders to return to the saddle again and again.

The documentary is built on observational footage capturing unique, authentic moments, complemented by archival materials and commentary from those closest to Kamil. It showcases not only the breathtaking landscapes and legendary Tourist Trophy course on the Isle of Man, but also the iconic Pikes Peak near Colorado Springs.

We trace the origins of Kamil’s passion for motorcycles, his journey into racing, and his rise to success on some of the world’s most legendary circuits. What sacrifices did he have to make to pursue his dream? How did he prepare for races? The film also explores broader themes: the relationship between man and machine, the financial demands of the sport, the physical conditioning required, and the personal cost of such a dangerous life—including the perspective of his three daughters and the responsibility he carried toward his family.

Kamil Holán

Kamil Holán was one of the best Czech road racers on natural circuits.

He began racing in 2001, while working professionally as a graphic designer. Within a few years, he made history—not only as one of the best, but also as the fastest Czech rider ever to compete at the legendary Isle of Man Tourist Trophy.

He first gained major attention in 2012 at the Manx Grand Prix, where he won the newcomer classification, outperforming many experienced local riders. His performance as a relatively unknown Czech amateur became a sensation among experts and across the international motorcycle racing community.

Holán continued to return to the Isle of Man in the following years, competing in the prestigious Tourist Trophy itself—the most demanding race held on the course. He entered, among others, the premier Superbike category, achieving 20th place in 2018—the best result ever by a Czech rider in the event. He also holds the record for the fastest lap ever set by a Czech competitor on the course, with a time of 18 minutes and 7 seconds (2016).

His success extended beyond the Isle of Man. In Hořice, he won the famous “Gustav Havel’s 300 Curves” race four times. He competed in the prestigious European IRRC championship and also took part in the legendary Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado, where he finished fourth in the Heavyweight category and earned the Rookie of the Year award.
Although motorcycles are no longer permitted to compete at Pikes Peak, Holán’s legacy remains deeply connected to both road racing and traditional circuits. He also appeared in the FIM Endurance World Championship, participating in iconic events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Bol d’Or at Circuit Paul Ricard. His career further included appearances at Daytona 200 in the USA and the Macau Grand Prix on its narrow city circuit.

His life was a ride filled with adrenaline and danger.

Tourist Trophy

The Isle of Man TT or Tourist Trophy races are an annual motorcycle sporting event run on the Isle of Man during the months of May and June. The race takes place during most years since its inaugural inception in 1907. It is often cited as being the most dangerous racing event in the world, with riders hitting average speeds of up to 150mph and with a course length spanning all of 37.73 miles.

The Isle of Man TT has become the ultimate ‘must see’ event for motorsport fans, globally. Every May and June, the tiny country situated between England and Ireland transforms into a motorcycle nirvana as the road racers gather to test themselves against the incredible ‘Mountain Course’ – a beast of a course carved out of the island’s public roads. For over 100 years the mountain’s siren call has drawn in fans and riders to experience the unique atmosphere on offer at the Isle of Man TT festival.

Between 1911 and 2018, there has tragically been 258 competitive rider fatalities during either official practice or racing on the Mountain course, with the losses of so many prompting the Moto GP events to be organized on closed off circuits.
